This DIY Halloween costume includes plush cat ears and tail, fingerless gloves and leg warmers. I also made a soft crinoline bubble skirt and paired it with a black bodysuit and applied pretty cat costume makeup.
A black cat probably wins for the most popular Halloween costume.
On every sidewalk and at every Halloween party, there are always cat ears and whiskered faces. With some homemade magic, you can create a stunning black cat costume that is truly one of a kind!
Three years ago, we made our girls black cat costumes that were cozy and perfect for younger girls. First, every cat needs ears. Really, in a pinch, you can just rock the cat ears, black clothes, and some makeup. Over the years, I have made more animal ears than I can count. I have made various kinds of cat ears, bunny ears, bat ears, fox ears, fawn ears, and unicorn ears.
In these cat costumes I made a few years ago, I show you one method for how to make cat ears. You can see how to make a really easy type of animal ears in this video tutorial…. For this new cat costume for teens, I made an even prettier style of cat ears.
The method I used for these plush cat ears is more refined and simplified. After making all those ears, I have discovered what works and looks best. I plan to update this post with a video tutorial.
But in the meantime, here is how I make these pretty cat ears. Draw a simple template for your cat ears on paper. Basically, you just need to draw a triangle that extends down about an inch at the bottom.A bay, arched or corner window setup requires a bendable curtain rod. It can be difficult to find one to match your exact window measurements, and a custom made rod is typically expensive.
However, a savvy do-it-yourself homeowner can make a bendable curtain rod that fulfills her needs and do so at a fraction of the cost of a custom-made rod.Ibarapa polytechnic eruwa hnd form
Cut two sections of hollow, metal curtain rod with a pipe cutter. Cut these sections equal in length to the required wall measurement less 3 inches per corner.
For example, for a corner window rod with a required length of 40 inches on each side of the corner, cut two rods 37 inches. If the rod is for a bay, cut the outside section the section length less one corner reduction, cut the center section less two corner reductions.La prosciutteria crudi e bollicine siena si
Cut one inch piece of clear plastic pipe for the corner with the shears. Choose pipe that fits inside the curtain rod. Pipe measurements are listed as the width of the opening of the pipe and the thickness of the walls alter the size of pipe required to fit into the curtain rod.
The curtain rod must, therefore, have an interior diameter that matches the outer diameter of the plastic pipe. Insert one end of the plastic pipe into one end of the curtain rod, insert the other end into the remaining piece of curtain rod. Leave 6 inches of exposed pipe between the two. Mount your chosen brackets on the wall. Install a bracket at each end of each rod location. The outside bracket is typically installed two to three inches from the outside rod end, depending on the finial and design choice.
Install one bracket on each side of the corner; position them far enough away from the corner that they do not touch. A guideline is to place the bracket away from the corner a distance equal to the depth of the bracket. The depth is the measurement from the bottom of the base of the bracket to the front of the bracket. Thread the rod pocket, grommet or tab curtain onto the rod, arrange the gathers or folds evenly and set the rod in place, adjusting the curtain over the brackets.
Install the finials to complete the corner bendable rod project. Measure the perimeter of the arch and cut a piece of clear plastic pipe to this measurement plus the required finial mounting allowance.

Plastic pipe is bendable, is typically clear and can be cut with shears. This pipe is quite strong and maintains its shape well while going through an arch.
The diameter of the pipe is up to you depending on the size of the window -- just as you would choose a larger curtain rod for a large window, choose a larger diameter pipe for a large window. Choose finials that screw in place over the end of the pipe. The required mounting allowance is the amount of pipe the finial covers when in place.
Spray paint the rod your chosen color. Install a curtain bracket every six or eight inches along the perimeter. Choose closed-end brackets -- they have a circular end and the rod slides through the opening.
Install one finial onto the rod. Thread the pipe through the brackets and attach the remaining finial. Set the bracket installation screws, securing the rod in place.
How to Make Your Own Bendable Curtain Rod
Linda Erlam started writing educational manuals in These wings are shaped as fallen angel wings, but you can use the methods in the 'ible to make any shape or size wing you need for your character or creature. I think they would be great for comic book and cartoon character wings. They are primarily made of foam, as opposed to feathers.
This is so they can be painted and have a smooth appearance. The smoothness of them were essential for me since these wings were part of a cemetery angel costume, so they needed to look like stone. There are many kinds of wings out there, depending on what character or creature you want to be, the wings may differ in shape and size.
It helps to pull some reference pictures to get an accurate interpretation of the wings you are making. These wings are built on a wire frame. To make it easier to shape the wire in two of the same shapes, draw the outline of the shape of the wing on a large piece of paper. The idea is to have the wings come from a rectangular base will lay on my back. Measuring on a dress form I decided to make the base 9" x 6".
Check out the image for reference. Then draw your wing shape. Taping the wire to the paper along the way helps to keep the whole wire shape in place as you work. Cross the ends over each other slightly and hot glue around and in between the wire. The hot glue held up surprisingly well.
I believe it's because the aluminum wire is so light weight. Make sure to cover the whole connection with glue, getting it in the cracks of the intersection. Just make sure there is enough edge around the wing base to glue the wire to. Set aside. Whatever is comfortable for you. I found some seat belt material to use for mine. You may need to weight the base as it dries. You will be gluing the wire frame to the foam core piece, so check that you you have enough space on the trace to glue around the edge.
To score, take the blade and cut far enough in puncture one side, partially through the foam middle, but not through to the other side. From my research, I wanted my wings to curve in at the top and slightly at the bottom. You can see I scored the top every 1 inch and the bottom a few times 2 inches apart. If you are going to a costume party for Halloween, you might want to make a costume of your own. If you are going as a devil, a cat, a dinosaur, or any number of animals, you will need to make a costume tail.
Making a tail will take you a little time, but may not cost anything, depending on what you already have. The basic design for a costume tail will be described here. After the initial frame is built, however, you can branch off on your own and customize it as you please.
Take the wire and cut it to a length that will be long enough for the entire tail while still being able to encircle your waist. The wire should be of a thicker gauge—thick enough that it holds its shape without being inordinately heavy. Once the length is determined, bend it at one end into the approximate shape of the tail. It should be S-shaped, but the costume might call for it to be Z-shaped or otherwise.
This is where customization comes into play. At the other end of the tail you need to make it into a circle to go around your waist. There are a couple of ways you can do this. With the pliers, bend it into a circle while holding it in position. Once you get the approximate shape you can either twist the open end back around the wire, closing off the circle, or you can leave it open. If you close it off, the hoop will have to be big enough to fit over your head or be pulled up from your ankles while staying put around your hips.
If you leave it open, you must able to run it through belt loops when you are ready to don your costume. Take your foam rubber and cut it into long strips. They should be thin yet thick enough to wrap once around the wire to pad it.
This will take a little time with the hot glue gun, but glue the foam to itself for the entire length of the wire. This will enclose the wire and build up the girth of the tail. Another customization feature is to use thicker foam rubber depending on your needs. If you plan on threading it through belt loops, pad it lightly.
With the foam rubber, cut out any shape you wish for the end of the tail.

If you are going as a devil, maybe it will be a spade. If you are a stegosaurus, maybe you want some spikes. Glue the shapes onto the end of the tail with hot glue.
When gluing foam with hot glue, squeeze the glued pieces or ends together for at least 10 seconds once the glue has been applied and make sure the glue is hot. You can use colors and patterns of fabric to decorate your tail, as well as bits like sequins or gems. If the waist hoop will be visible when your costume is complete, do not forget to decorate that as well and make it blend into the rest of the tail.
Your tail is now complete and made exactly to order. Any Halloween costume that calls for a tail can be customized from this basic design. If you have craft supplies at home, you may not even have to spend one penny to make it.Metal Crafting information. Photo shows Approximate thickness: 23 gauge. T he Soft Aluminum Wire bends very easily especially the thinner wire. Thicker wire is stiffer than thin. Aluminum does not solder easily and special equipment is needed, but it can easily be joined with adhesives such as liquid nails, super glue, and a metallic glue called liquid solder. Test on a sample before ordering a large amount to make sure it will behave as needed.
The Gauge chart picture may not appear correctly on some computer screens due to different screen resolutions and page size settings. We urge ordering a sample to see exact thickness and to get a feel of a wire. Nothing beats hands on experience. Metal by the running foot or yard is shipped in one length whenever possible. We use this metal to craft our own creations. All of It is solderable. It is not to be used for electrical work.
New Craft Metal has a bright rolled satin finish. Some is shiny and and some has patina from age. It is all very usable at a good price. Gauges or Thickness: The lower the gauge number the thicker the metal. For example 6 gauge aluminum wire is the thickest and 20 gauge aluminum craft wire is thin. See below for gauge charts. This craft metal is approximately the gages indicated. The more a metal is worked the stiffer it gets.
Patina solutions available at most hardware stores can be used to speed the aging process. Aluminum only turns gray with time - but can be painted or polished.
Rolls and coils are tightly wound and may spring open. They are not for use by children. Gauge thickness shown is approximate. Our metals are sold only for craft work; and they are not tested nor certified safe for electrical nor electronic uses, nor home construction nor internal consumption, and they are not certified for food service. Worth also lived in San Francisco for 8 years where he started his artistic trajectory working as an actor and musician for the Santa Fe Shakespeare Festival, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and the California Shakespeare Theater. Despite his successful career, Gavin Worth soon realized that Shakespeare was not his real passion. He confesses that he had always felt a great fascination for drawing, painting and sculpture since he first saw Michelangelo's 'Head of Leda' in a book in the library.
As Gavin Worth points out, almost from the beginning he toyed with the idea of creating a 3-D effect using bendable wire. As he knew right away that he didn't want to create a very realistic depiction of a 3-D form, he thought that it would be perhaps more interesting to create an abstract, almost organic shape made of grouped wire that would become an image when viewed from the right angle.
In this way, far from being static, the sculptures would obtain a remarkable plasticity. When the light in the room shifts, so does the mood of the piece.
A breeze might softly move an arm for example. My wire sculptures tell stories of simple human moments: a woman adjusting her hair, a face gazing from behind tightly wrapped arms, a mother gently cradling her baby. The honest, unguarded moments are those which I find to be the most beautiful. In addition to the wire sculptures, Gavin Worth has also experimented with video, spray painting and stencils.
Inspired by the street art of San Francisco, there is always a bit of urban feel in the commissioned works he completes for various clients, including the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
Whilst working with stencils, he eventually decided to further explore the potential of his creations: '' I was cutting stencils for a painting one day when I realized that sometimes the stencil itself is as interesting as the painting you can make with it. I decided to experiment with this idea and made some cut paper pieces ''.
His eye catching paper cut works are a continuation of his wire sculptures since in both cases Worth is trying to define shape by using simple materials. Furthermore, the background of his creations, a simple coloured paper or just a wall, is there to intensify the power of his minimal figures.
The human body is depicted in an almost tender way and sometimes just a simple detail can transmit all the passion that his heroes feel. One cannot but think that the original inspiration of his figures is possibly hidden in the picturesque peaks of these mountains.

Start with a piece of wire at least three times as long as the desired twisted length, keeping in mind that the tighter the twist, the more wire you'll need. Fold the wire in half and wrap it around a table leg or doorknob.
If necessary, place some padding between the wire and the doorknob or table leg to protect the surface. Place a cup hook in the drill, and secure both wire ends to the cup hook. While holding the wire taut, slowly turn the drill handle, twisting the wire. If you don't have a hand drill, you can create your own modified version with a wooden coat hanger that has a revolving wire hook. Cut a piece of wire at least three times as long as the desired twisted length.
Fold the length of wire in half and loop it around a door handle or other secure point. Wrap both wire ends at least three times around the hanger, on either side of the handle, to secure. Step back until the wire is taut and begin rotating the coat hanger.
For an even twist, hold the wire horizontally and don't relax your grip. Twist the wire to the desired degree, taking care not to over twist or the wire may snap. Remove the wire from the drill or door handle and cut both ends.
By the 's, wire sculpture introduced this medium to the world of fine art. Wire diameter is measured in inches or millimeters as well as in gauges. Gauges range from 0 to around 50; the smaller the number, the thicker the wire. For example, a gauge wire is slightly thinner than a coat hanger, while gauge wire is similar to thread.
An example is: dark annealed wire. Its smooth, kink resistant nylon coating provides excellent abrasion resistance. Tiger Tail, one of the original wires used for bead stringing, actually had an industrial origin. Containing only 3 strands of stainless steel wire, it tends to kink if you're not careful.
Modern bead stringing wires are softer, stronger and more flexible than Tiger Tail, and can be used for most general beading designs. Bead stringing wires, now available in multiple colors to enhance your designs, work well for stringing ceramic, glass, metal, stone beads, seed beads and freshwater pearls.
The greater the number of strands, the softer and more flexible the wire is.
